Black Forest Gateau Cake

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm so excited for todays blog as it's is a recipe for a four layered cake. For this recipe I made two cakes and sliced them both in half (one layer went a bit wrong so I only had three layers). I then filled each layer with whipped cream, chocolate gauche and cherries. This uses two 6 inch round pans.

You Will Need:

For The Cakes:
  • 195g Caster Sugar
  • 195g Unsalted Butter
  • 3 Eggs
  • 30g Cocoa Powder
  • 30ml Warm Water
  • 280g Self Raising Flour
For The Filling:
  • 200ml Whipped Cream / Single Cream
  • Cherries / cherries in kirsch (which has some alcohol in it so just beware)
  • 150g dark chocolate
Method:
  • Preheat your oven to 180 (fan) (gas mark 6 / 200C)
  • Cream together your butter and sugar and then slowly add one egg at a time.
  • whisk together your warm water and coco powder making sure there is no lumps.
  • Add in your flour and chocolate mixture alternatively starting and ending with flour.

  • Once you have greased your tins pour in an equal amount into each and bake for 20 - 30 minutes.
  • When they are cooked leave them to cool completely in their pans for approximately 30 minutes.
  • If you are using single cream whisk it until stiff peaks form.
  • melt your dark chocolate and leave to cool without it setting.

  • mix 50 ml of cream with your dark chocolate and there is your chocolate gauche!
  • when your cakes have cooled remove them from their tins, slice off the dome on top so you have a flat cake and then slice in half, repeat this step for the other cake.
  • spread some cream onto your first layers, then add the sliced cherries or cherries in kirsch and then drizzle over your chocolate gauche, next, place your 2nd layer carefully on top. Repeat this step for the other layers.
  •   finish by dusting some icing sugar over it and drizzling some gauche if you have any left, and enjoy!

Hope you liked this recipe I loved making it, it was super delious and not too difficult to make! See you next time!
